About Us

Celebrated the 2nd Saturday in September, Quincy Farmer Consumer Awareness Day is a day to bring together farmers and consumers. The parade is downtown, then the rest of the festivities are located at Quincy Middle School. FCAD is a day for farmers to show how food is produced, and for consumers to learn. The festival includes a parade, farm equipment display, quilt show, vendors, tours, fun run, car show, a cook off, and a soccer tournament.

In 1981, Dennis Higashiyama heard on the Paul Harvey a story showing how many people had little to no understanding of how food actually arrives on their grocery store shelves. A woman called in and said who needs farmers when “people could just go to the grocery store and get their food.” Local farmers were outraged and made it their goal to educate consumers about the value of agriculture. From this concept sprang forth Farmer Consumer Awareness Day.

The Quincy festival is a distinctive one and has been a source of community pride. It is learning about a quality rural lifestyle and gaining appreciation for agricultural industries, the backbone of our state and nation.
